Performance-Based SEO Strategies – Boon Or Bane?

Throughout the history of SEO marketing, it has often been debated regarding the goals that can be achieved through optimization and how they can be fulfilled. Numerous SEO articles & news have solely focused on answering this question. Performance-based SEO is a notable topic that has been around for quite some time now. There are several SEO experts who believe that most of the performance-based SEO programs and policies do not really consider the real benefits or progress of a site and instead try to garner quick results through clever marketing. Over the last decade or so, SEO practices and concepts have undergone massive changes. While many companies have not yet upgraded their ways to the latest developments, others have come up with new policies to adjust with the changing SEO trends.

Importance of performance-based SEO tactics

The reason as to why many SEO companies try out performance-based SEO strategies is that it will generate quick results. As most clients still believe that this is a much more safer option than to actually take the longer route to enhance their overall SEO capabilities, the SEO companies take the advantage of the situation without actually letting the client know about the pros and cons of such an approach. If you keep yourself abreast with the latest SEO news & updates, you will clearly understand that any performance-based SEO policy carries with it a great deal of risk factor. What is worse is that if the SEO firm that you are approaching for your optimization needs is spam driven, the company might not even deliver you what was agreed in the first place in the contract. Hence it is always best to work with companies that stick to more ethical SEO practices. While performance-based SEO strategies may initially give you results, they are a farce in the long run.

Google Will Not Show Authorship in the Search Results Any More

The author’s face that could be displayed alongside the content that they had written on a website linked to their Google+ accounts, will no more be possible. Since June 2014, Google has done away with the option of showing the authorship in the search results. So, it will no more be possible to display the profile picture of the author in the search results that would allow you to know who wrote what.

According to John Mueller of Google, while briefing about the latest updates on SEO, the idea of removing the authorship from the search results stems from the fact that the information was not as much useful as they had hoped it to be when they had launched it three years ago. Rather, displaying the authorship could be a cause of distraction from the search results. Hence, the decision had to be taken to withdraw it.

Updates and changes are made with the objective of improving users’ experience. In this case, no such improvement was noticed during the tests that had been conducted to ascertain its effectiveness. Removal of the authorship has neither reduced traffic to sites nor has it resulted in increased clicks on advertisements.
Google+ posts from friends and pages can now be seen by the users both on the right hand side and the main results only if they are relevant to the query. The social features are not impacted by the withdrawal of authorship.

The other reasons for removal of authorship that have been unearthed by some SEO & SMO News & Articles are:
  • It was not being used by many people and even when it was used, the set up process almost always ridden with error like there was no linking back to the to the publishing site on their profiles of Google+.
  • Google may have wanted to integrate the desktop and mobile experiences that do not permit as much space that is required to display authorship snippets.
Google strongly recommends use of structured markup by websites that helps all search engines to comprehend context of the web pages and its content. It will be used to show rich snippets in search results.

Beware Of Google Panda 4.0 If Your Website Has Low Quality Web Pages

Many websites have lost their rankings post May 20, 2014, the day Google launched Panda 4.0, so far the latest update of the algorithm. Poor content of the websites is the reason for the dip in the rankings and Panda 4.0 is just meant to identify websites with poor content and keep them away from the rankings. This is being done to meet Google’s objective of providing more relevant information to searchers by improving the quality and relevance of the web pages that are displayed in the search results. This has been one of the most sensational topics presented in various SEO & SMO News & Articles for the past couple of months.

Impact of the change

According to several SEO Articles & News, websites like ask.com, ebay.com and biography.com are among many websites that have been downgraded in Google rankings by almost 70%. Poor content of these websites have resulted in their downfall, more so because these websites depend on content that is automatically generated that has been found to be below par according to the new algorithm.

The key targets

Panda 4.0 has specifically targeted aggregator websites; that is websites that gather information from other online sources instead of creating their own original content for posting. News sites that relay celebrity gossip sourced from news agencies, Press portals, Weather portals and Price comparison sites are some of the sites that have fallen out of Google’s favor in website rankings.

Improve your website

If you want to remain out of the reach of Panda 4.0 here are some tips to enhance the quality of your website:
  • The information of the articles should be trustworthy.
  • Do not generate content with an eye to ranking, instead focus on the genuine interests of the readers in selecting topics.
  • Describe the topic comprehensively.
  • The page should generate enough interest in readers who might like to bookmark it or share it with others.
  • The value of the page should be substantial to the readers as compared to other search results.
For lasting results in website rankings, concentrate on the quality of your website and never indulge in spammy methods to promote your website.
